![]() The three sections of the ship are shown in figure 3-5. The C section extends from the after transverse bulkhead of the propulsion machinery spaces aft to the stern. ![]() The B section comprises all of the spaces between the forward transverse bulkhead of the forward propulsion machinery compartment and the after transverse bulkhead of the after propulsion machinery compartment. The A section extends from the bow of the ship aft to the forward transverse bulkhead of the propulsion machinery spaces. ![]() This letter indicates the section of the ship in which the compartment is located. On ships built before March 1949, the first letter of the compartment number is A, B, or C. Use this example when reading the following explanation: The new system uses 1, 2, 3, and so forth, and the double bottoms are given whatever number befalls them.Īn example of a compartment number on ships built before March 1949 follows. The older system uses 100, 200, 300, and so forth, and always 900 for the double bottoms. A zero precedes the deck number for all levels above the main deck for example, 01, 02, and 03.įigure 3-4 shows both of the systems used to number decks. All compartments on the starboard side end in an odd number. All compartments on the port side end in an even number. Both of these systems agree in the following respects: The Navy uses two systems to number compartments: one is for ships built before March 1949, and the other for ships built after March 1949. This number is marked on a label plate that is secured to the door or hatch, and on a 12-inch by 15-inch yellow rectangle on the bulkhead. Usually occurs in rheumatoid arthritis.Every compartment in a ship (except minor spaces, such as peacoat lockers, linen lockers, andĬleaning gear lockers) is assigned a compartment number. Vaughan – Jackson Syndrome : Inability to extend the MP joints of the ring and small fingers due to extensor tendon rupture beginning on the ulnar side of the hand and wrist. Snapping ECU Syndrome : Painful “snap” over ulnodorsal aspect of wrist with rupture of the ECU subsheath in the 6 th dorsal compartment. Intersection Syndrome : Pain is felt on top of the forearm where the two muscles that connect to the thumb (APL and EPB) cross over the underlying wrist tendons (ECRL and ECRB).Įxtensor Tenosynovitis : Irritation of the tendons located in the fourth extensor compartment. PATHOLOGY ASSOCIATED WIYH THE EXTENSOR TENDONSĭe Quervain’s Syndrome : Inflammation of the sheath that surrounds the two tendon that control movement of the thumb.presents with pain and swelling over the thumb side of the wrist and difficulty in gripping. Repeat X rays and examination of the patient in 10 days. Patient should have immobilization of the wrist and the patient should be treated as if a scaphoid fracture is present. The extensor pollicis brevis, abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis longus form the anatomical “ snuff box”.ĪNATOMICAL SNUFF BOX PAIN : Radial side wrist pain after trauma if associated with tenderness in the anatomical snuff box could indicate a scaphoid fracture. SIXTH COMPARTMENT : Includes extensor carpi ulnaris. This won’t affect the function of index finger if the tendon is taken proximal to sagittal band. This compartment has the terminal branch of posterior interosseous nerve (PIN),which supplies sensation to the wrist joint.įIFTH COMPARTMENT : Includes extensor digiti minimi which is ulnar to the small extensor digitorum communis (the extra muscle is always ulnar). Extensor indices is used as a tendon graft for rupture of the extensor pollicis longus. Extensor indicis is ulnar to the extensor digitorum communis for the index finger. EPL tendon can rupture due to nondisplaced distal radial fracture.Test for EPL rupture is by placing the palm flat on the table and lifting the thumb.įOURTH COMPARTMENT : Includes extensor indicis and extensor digitorum. THIRD COMPARTMENT : Includes extensor pollics longus which is ulnar to lister’s tubercle. Extensor carpi radialis longus and extensor carpi radialis brevis are radial to lister’s tubercle. This compartment is involved in Intersection syndrome. SECOND COMPARTMENT:Includes extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radialis brevis. Abductor pollicis longus may have multiple slips and extensor pollicis brevis may have its own separate compartment. At this compartment an abnormal pathology that could occur is De Quervain’s syndrome. On the top of this tendons is the Extensor rectinaculam.įIRST COMPARTMENT : Includes abductor pollicis longus ,extensor pollicis brevis. It starts with Abductor Pollicis Longus ,Extensor Pollicis Brevis ,Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus ,Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis ,Extensor Pollics Longus, Extensor Indicis, Extensor Digitorum ,Extensor Digiti Minimi, and Extensor Carpi Ulnaris. ![]() In the dorsal aspect of wrist, tendons are arranged in 6 compartments.
